Review requests to your customers: check beforehand, read the status and stop

3 min readUpdated on

After a finished job the workspace asks your customer for a review once, with at most one reminder. That happens by itself, but only when four things are right: where the review goes, who gets the request, when, and with which text. Check them beforehand and read the real status afterwards. Review requests are switched on or off under What you use.

Check four things beforehand

Open Reviews. First check that review requests are on; otherwise switch them on under What you use. Also check that customer email is on. Without customer email no review request is sent.

Who gets the request and when

A customer appears under Your customers once a job is completed. The request goes out the day after the job, from 10:00. After 5 days one reminder follows if the customer has not clicked. No more after that. Every customer is asked only once, even if they have another job later. For trades with fixed visits, the explanation says after which visit the request goes out.

Do you know a customer has already reviewed you on Google? The workspace cannot see that. Mark them under Your customers; then we do not ask that customer. Do not use this to have only satisfied customers asked: everyone should get the same request. Why, is explained in Asking for Google reviews (in Dutch).

Read the text as your customer receives it

Under What your customer sees, choose View full email. Check your business name, the button to the chosen service and the sentence that nothing is given in return. The email does not first ask whether the customer was satisfied and promises nothing in return. Below the email is an unsubscribe link that works without logging in.

Read the real status

Each customer shows what really happened. A click means the customer opened the review page, not that a review was published. The workspace does not measure whether an email was opened.

The statuses under Your customers
StatusWhat it means
Not asked yetNo request has been sent yet
Sending nowThe email is recorded and is being sent
AskedThe mail server accepted the request
Asked and reminded onceNo further email follows
Opened the review pageThe customer clicked the button
Sent a messageThe customer sent you a message
Email delivery is unconfirmedOutcome unknown; nothing is resent
Does not want further requestsThe customer unsubscribed

Recover without a double email

With Email delivery is unconfirmed, the workspace does not know whether the mail server accepted the email. So it does not send it again: a customer must not get two requests. Do not send the customer a second review email yourself either. If you are in touch anyway, simply ask whether the email arrived.

If the mail server definitely refused the email, a next round tries again. A customer who sent a message is shown under Messages customers sent you directly; they get no reminder.

Stop or unsubscribe

To stop completely, choose Disconnect and stop requests. No new requests or reminders are sent after that. A customer who unsubscribes shows Does not want further requests and never gets a review request again, not even after a new job. Only the owner or an administrator can change the business setting; the customer’s opt-out still applies. The QR code and the link itself are covered in share your review link and QR code safely.

Another question?

Your question goes to Laurens himself. On weekdays from 08:30 to 19:00.

Ask Laurens

No. Every customer gets one request and at most one reminder. That is the sending limit of this workspace.

No. The workspace counts clicks on the button. Whether a review really appears, you see at the service itself.

Check that review requests and customer email are on, that the customer has an email address, whether they unsubscribed and whether you marked them as already reviewed.
